“ROCK REPORT” – 03/04/12

RAVEN LORD Add “Larry Paterson” On Drums…

RAVEN LORD have revealed that former “Stuka Squadron” (Blaze Bayley, Chokehold, Sinocence, Arbitrater) drummer, Larry Paterson, will be joining the group.  Larry lives in the UK & comes to the band with a pro-echelon of touring experience.

The band has often been compared to the sounds sound of Dio, Yngwie Malmsteen, Black Sabbath, & Judas Priest.  Preliminary work on a new album has already began, with various songs at different stages of completion.  Two new songs ‘End of World’ & ‘Saints & Sinners’ can be heard at www.myspace.com/raven-lord or www.facebook.com/ravenlordmusic.

Raven Lord’s line-up is Csaba Zvekan (Killing Machine, Sardonyx, Emergency) – vocals, Stefan Lindholm (Vindictiv) – lead guitar, Julian Barrett (Tarja Turunen, Barilari, Lorihen) – lead/rhythm guitar, Jamie Mallender (Tony Martin Band, ex-Black Sabbath) – bass, & now Larry Paterson (Blaze Bayley, Stuka Squadron, Sinocence) – drums.

LARRY’S BIO:

Lawrence Paterson was born in Matamata, New Zealand – drumming by the age of 15…influenced by the sounds of classic hard rock & heavy metal bands like Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, & AC/DC.  Several projects in the New Zealand region followed, until around 1988…when Larry relocated to the United Kingdom.

Again, Larry spent several years in bands of different calibres & levels of achievement – like drumming for thrashers “Arbitrater” in 1992, when they released the ‘Darkened Reality’ album.  For a period of time, Larry was an official helper & “gear carrier” for Cozy Powell (& his drum tech Eddie Naughton), during the writing & recording of the Black Sabbath ‘Forbidden’ album.  Striking up a friendship with one of his all-time drum heroes left an indelible impression on Lawrence…a profound influence in Larry’s playing style & attitude to both music, & metal in particular.

Over the years, since his arrival in the UK, Larry has played in several notable bands including Chokehold (who released three albums, appeared on Channel 4 Television, & toured with Saxon) & Blaze Bayley – appearing on two studio albums, a “LIVE” double album & DVD…plus touring throughout England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Eire, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Croatia, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Brazil, Poland, Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, & Greece between 2007 & 2010.

Larry also authored a book on the Blaze Bayley Band’s history entitled, “At The End Of The Day”, published originally in 2009.  This was actually his eleventh book, as he has also written ten others about a totally different kind of “heavy metal”.  Since 2000, he has penned non-fiction histories of Germany’s Second World War U-boat service…inspired largely by his lifelong interest in the Second World War & workings as a scuba instructor, diving the wartime wrecks off of the coast of France.

Larry proudly endorses the following equipment:  Mapex drums & hardware, Wincent drumsticks, Paiste cymbals; Aquarian drumheads, The Music Shipping Company (Kidderminster), Hardcase cases, & Dreadmeister custom drum parts.

In 2006, Black Sabbath was reborn as “Heaven & Hell” with Vinny again manning the rhythm behind the band…with the great Ronnie James Dio on vocals.  Three world tours followed, as well as a CD titled “The Devil You Know” – the first studio album since 1991’s “Dehumanizer”.  The band also released the “Heaven & Hell: Live in Europe” DVD in 2010, which was the last video recording of the late Ronnie James Dio at Wacken Festival in Germany.  Vinny can also be heard on the recent release of “Dio At Donington” – a live performance of Dio from 1983 & 1987.

Former ANTHRAX Guitarist & Founder of “RED LAMB” – DAN SPITZ Shooting Documentary @ “WALK NOW FOR AUTISM SPEAKS”

Twin Autistic Sons Will Be The Subject For Exclusive Film…

Dan Spitz, founder & former guitar player for Anthrax & current creator of Red Lamb, along with his wife Candi (as well as their twin four-year-old boys) are raising awareness of the life-changing effects of autism by participating in the “Walk Now For Autism Speaks” in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“Autism is what makes our children special, we do not see it as a disability.  They are beautiful, intelligent, silly, & we love that they see the world differently.” explains Candi Spitz, who is also on the committee for Autism Speaks.  The couple’s four-year-old twin sons’ autism diagnosis has given the Spitz family a mission to do all they can for not only their children, but the 1 in 110 American children currently diagnosed with the disease.  They will be participating in the walk on March 4th, while filming portions from the event for a documentary on their sons’ lives.  The currently untitled documentary is being produced by SheKnows.com, a prominent parenting website that won both a 2010 & 2011 “OMMA Award for Excellence”.

Dan Spitz formed Red Lamb in 2010 & recently released a self-titled debut album, co-produced with Dave Mustaine (Megadeth).  Spitz & Mustaine also co-wrote the song “Puzzle Box” for the release – a video for the track is in the works with footage from Sunday’s event being included.  Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson) oversaw all programming for the album.  Vrenna & Spitz are also working on a side project with more details to be announced shortly.  The first video from Red Lamb is for the song “The Cage” – which can be seen here.
